Venue Too Hot for Sexy Slut; New Musical Takes Brief Hiatus

Preview performances at the sexy new off-Broadway musical Slut have been hotter than anyone could have anticipated. In fact, producers have decided to put the show on hold while awaiting the arrival of an industrial cooling system to replace the air conditioning system that currently fails to cool the American Theatre of Actors. Slut's September 15 and September 16 shows have been cancelled, with performances expected to resume at some point this weekend. Despite the setback, the musical comedy will still open on October 1 as planned.

"Although we like to think of ourselves as the hottest show in town, we care deeply about the comfort of the audience and, of course, the cast," Slut director Gordon Greenberg told Broadway.com. Greenberg explained that the theater, which is a part of a midtown building erected in 1893, previously had a makeshift air conditioning system which was installed when Urinetown premiered there in 2001. Previews started September 13, but after two over-heated performances, Slut producers Dena Hammerstein and Pam Pariseau decided to invest in a generator and cooling system, which is expected to arrive at the theater from a movie set in the coming days. In the downtime, the cast of Slut will work on the show in an air-conditioned rehearsal studio.

"Fortunately, the show's going really well," Greenberg added. "Even in 90 degree heat, we didn't lose any audience members!" Greenberg looks forward to starting up the show again in a more comfortable environment: "Giving out bottles of water and asking audiences to remove extraneous layers of clothing only gets you so far!"

Slut features book and lyrics by Ben H. Winters and music and additional lyrics by Stephen Sislen. Andy Karl Altar Boyz stars as Adam, a straight guy on a life-long quest for one-night stands. The show also stars Jenn Colella, Mary Faber, Harriett D. Foy, David Josefsberg, Kevin Pariseau, Jim Stanek and Amanda Watkins.
